VHS cheerleaders kick off season with new mascot
By Tucker VandenBos
It’s basketball season again, and all of the teams are working hard on improving their skills and getting ready for games.
But Panther fans often forget about one of the most important teams: the cheerleaders. They work very hard to increase school spirit and cheer on their team.
This year’s Valier High School cheerleaders include senior Mariah Sheble, junior Joie Clifford, and sophomores Elise Parker and Lacie Haynes.
“We are working really hard, and having lots of fun too!” said Coach Jessie Johnson. “The season is going very good, and I am looking forward to our first game.”
This year, the cheerleaders are adding an exciting new member to their team. They’ve ordered a new mascot suit, a black panther. According to local Panther sports trivia buffs, it has been almost 40 years since VHS has had a new mascot costume! Pouncing around in the new Panther mascot costume will be Lacie Haynes.
“I’m really excited about it,” said Haynes. “It’s going to increase the spirit for our teams and make the games more fun.”
“It is sure to get the fans at the games more fired up for our teams,” said Parker. “I’m excited for it, too.”
The squad will cheer for their first game at Heart Butte on Thursday, Dec 17.
