The lack of offense contributed significantly to two girls basketball games lost last week by the Cut Bank High girls. They lost 58-46 at Rocky Boy on Thursday and 45-37 at Conrad on Saturday and both tilts were conference games.
Coach Laura Keaster said, “The girls had some great moments in both games. Hopefully, once we start piecing everything together we will be a little more consistent.”
The Cut Bank girls are currently in fifth place in the seven-team District 1-B conference. They are 4-5 in league play and 5-9 overall.
Cut Bank scored 13 points in the first quarter at Rocky Boy and led 13-9. The Lady Wolves then scored only 13 points in the next two quarters combined and trailed 40-26 entering the final period. Cut Bank outscored their hosts 20-16 in the final eight minutes but could not overcome the 14 point lead. Cut Bank defeated Rocky Boy at home earlier this season.
Brianna Bauer was Cut Bank’s top scorer with 12 points. Sammy Bird added eight and Taylor Harvie seven. Salene Russette was the game’s leading scorer with 22 markers for Rocky Boy. Three other Rocky Boy players tallied seven points apiece.
The new gymnasium in Conrad did not welcome the shooting efforts of the Cut Bank girls. They tallied only two points in the opening stanza on Saturday night. Conrad scored seven points in the first period and subsequently led 23-18 at intermission. Conrad only outpointed the Lady Wolves by two in the second half.
Bird paced Cut Bank with 11 points while Bauer scored nine. Beth Grubb topped Conrad scoring 15 points and Taylor Johnson contributed 14 markers. Bauer’s nine points were scored on three 3-point field goals.
Coach Keaster concluded, “We have three tough games in a row but we are looking forward to the challenge.”
The local female cagers will host Choteau on Friday for Senior Night and then remain home on Saturday to face the Browning Indians. The girls will also play Fairfield on Thursday, Feb. 11.
