The Sunburst Refiners boys basketball team has a conference record of six wins and five losses after playing three league games last week. The Refiners won 73-64 at Heart Butte on Tuesday, lost 60-58 to Dutton-Brady at home on Friday and topped Simms 51-44 on Saturday in a road game.

Matt Horgus erupted for 26 points in the victory at Heart Butte and he was very capably assisted in scoring by Monte Richmond delivering 24 points. Heart Butte received 21 points from Kyle Eagle Speaker and Tylor Vaile and also in double figures for the Warriors was Tony Calf Boss Ribs with 10. Sunburst outscored Heart Butte 25-22 in the final stanza to clinch the triumph.

A barrage of 3-point field goals by Richmond and Scotty Bye wasn’t enough to defeat Dutton-Brady on Friday. Sunburst led 30-27 at intermission but was outscored 33-28 in the third and fourth quarters to give the DiamondBacks the conference win.

Bye made six 3-point goals en route to 19 points and Richmond drilled five 3-pointers on his way to 17 markers. Horgus tallied 18 versus the D-Backs. Sunburst’s only other point producer was Kyle Watterud with four. Josh Jenkins paced the Dutton-Brady team with 14 points while Tiegan Johnson scored 12 and Kyler Johnson 10.

Sunburst bolted out to a 14-7 lead in the first quarter against Simms and led 20-15 at halftime. The Refiners extended their lead in the third stanza by out-pointing their hosts 12-6 in the third period.
