Mark calendar now to attend Valier’s annual Homesteader Days
As the school year winds to an end people start to look at the summer schedule of events to figure out how they want to spend weekends and time off. Valier’s annual Homesteader Days celebration is set for June 24-26.
Valier Homesteader Days is one of the area community celebrations that is always a good choice. This year will be no exception, bringing in a new twist to the traditional events with the Mud Bog Races and 3-on-3-basketball.
The Homesteader Days celebration begins on Friday night with the co-ed softball tournament and the Poker Walk or Trot followed by a jam session. On Saturday vendors will set up in the city park at 10 a.m. Vendors are still being signed up and people who wish to bring their wares should sign up with Linda Kuka at 279-3624 work, or 279-3347 home.
The 11 a.m. parade is always enjoyable, featuring several floats, riders and vehicle entries. The theme for this year is “Sports,” so let your imagination run wild with everything from roller blades to ping pong, football to basketball, water skiing to snowmobiling for your costume or float.
Following the parade the traditional food vendors will be up in the park featuring traditional celebration food: Fireman’s barbequed beef sandwiches, the Women’s Club taco in a bag, and the Methodist Ladies homemade pies.
There is music and games for children on tap for your continued relaxation and enjoyment in the park. The Mud Bog Races, Stick Horse Rodeo, horse events and softball will take place throughout the afternoon. The evening concludes with a dance with live music by “Up North” at the Fireman’s Pavilion on the shores of Lake Frances.
Lake Frances is full to the brim this year so it is a good opportunity to bring your camper to Valier and enjoy the weekend in relaxing and visiting with friends while enjoying a variety of entertainment at Homesteader Days the last weekend of June.
