Glacier and Toole Counties were abuzz with activity on Wednesday, Aug. 25 with some high profile company visiting the Ports of Piegan and Sweet Grass as well as the U.S. Border Patrol station in Sunburst.

Commissioners reviewing budget, no decision on funding increase for Browning Volunteer Fire Dept.


The meeting of the Glacier County Commissioners in Browning on Aug. 24 opened with Mayor Lockley Bremner asking for additional funding for the town’s volunteer fire department. Bremner originally made the request with Browning Manager Willie Morris last month.

Blackfeet Environmental Office addresses illegal tire dumping


The Blackfeet Environmental Office (BEO) is currently investigating the disposal and accumulation of tire piles located on the Blackfeet Reservation.

Ashton Smith, Ryan Hoyt lead BHS linksters at weekend meet

Ashton Smith scored first place among varsity girls, with Ryan Hoyt placing third, to lead Browning at the East Glacier Park-Browning Invitational Golf Tournament Friday, Aug. 27, at the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course. The meet was preceded by another on Aug. 17 at Havre in which Hoyt placed fourth and Smith was first, and on Aug. 19 the team was in Ronan where Hoyt led the boys and Jessica Magee was tops among the Browning girls.

Browning drops opener 28-14 to Ronan at Arrowhead Stadium


“We won everything except the score,” said Browning Big Red football coach Graig Gilham of last week’s 28-14 loss to Ronan in the opening game of the season. “The kids fought to the end which is what we want to instill in them.”

Lady Indian spikers lose close matches with Butte Central


“We have a really young team,” said Lady Indian volleyball coach Rae Armstrong. “We’re trying to figure out where they’re fitting in. Last year it was mostly a defensive team, but this year we have more hitters, so we’re working on a new lineup.”
